ULU Dojo (Universities of London Union)

ULU Dojo has been running since 2002, and the current branchmaster, Sensei James Hales, has been instructing at the club for five years. Sensei James started training in the Bloomsbury area many years ago, and has always taken an active role in promoting Shorinji Kempo within the local university community. Sensei James has instructed at SOAS, UCL and ULU dojo’s over the years but now focuses his attention solely on ULU dojo.

While most of the training at ULU is undertaken in the University of London Union there are plenty of opportunities to train in more exotic locations. In 2007 ULU Dojo was proud to be paired with a "sister-dojo" (Nanzan University Shorinji Kempo Dojo) and students from ULU have subsequently enjoyed exchange visits to Japan. Recently, students have also benefited from training opportunities in South East Asia, Europe, and closer to home with a regular programme of events with other LUSKG dojos.

ULU Dojo is a friendly club and beginners are welcome at any time throughout the year. As a beginner you will be fully integrated into the standard class so there is no need to wait for any special beginners lessons. At ULU Dojo we have a good number of senior students (both male and female), so there will always be plenty of people on hand to help you improve. Your first lessons are free so that you can see if you enjoy the training without it costing you a penny, however we are confident that if you do pay us a visit, you will be back for more!

We currently train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings - for more information please see the venues page, or contact Sensei James here: shorinjikempo.ulu AT googlemail.com
